Taking a biopsychosocial approach to social and health psychology, I conduct research examining the psychosocial and
neurobiological (such as inflammatory biomarkers related to immune system health and cortisol) mechanisms related to goal-directed behaviors and long-term health outcomes. Specifically, I examine how our perceptions impact physiology, social connection, and long-term health behaviors underlying stress-related mental health and noncommunicable diseases. Focusing on mindfulness-based interventions and factors that promote resilience to adversity, I aim to promote theory-based interventions that impact stress-relevant appraisal processes. With a passion for science communication and healthy equity, I hope to inform how research on health mindsets can inform behavioral interventions and public policy, especially in the context of individuals with disadvantaged backgrounds.
